NOWNESS.com presents: Marjane Satrapi in “Beginnings” Series by Chiara Clemente In collaboration with the Sundance Channel, this NOWNESS short by Chiara Clemente puts the spotlight on Oscar-nominated Iranian film director and graphic novelist Marjane Satrapi. Satrapi gained international acclaim when her graphic novel Persepolis was adapted into a 2008 Oscar-nominated film. But before the notoriety, and before being exiled to Vienna for her own safety, Satrapi was just another rebellious and outspoken Iranian teen. Part of her childhood included collecting Iggy Pop and Iron Maiden tapes and refusing to wear a veil. The short takes a fascinating look at Satrapi, exploring her early influences and creative vision.

Infiniti In Black - Kehinde Wiley (by 360designworks)

Kehinde Wiley: Awesome artist, paints portraits of black men in heroic poses or sometimes in aristocratic poses taken from historical and famous portraits to fill the lack of representation of black men in art.

— often the most beautiful experiences are those pursued for the love of it - ergo pursue a labour of love.

— Marie Laurencin’s portrait of Coco Chanel, 1923

Certainly my favourite of Laurencin’s work, although, I must admit, I can devour all her paintings.
